The Boston Pirates is a local sports club that competed in chinese 6-man volleyball. They asked me to conceive a logo for their club that was more edgy and intimidating to fit their team name.
Being "Pirates" I had to go with the menacing look of a skull head with a bandana. I changed the team colors to simple black and deep red with white trim. I felt the color change and new logo would add a sense of attitude to the team. For the font, I used two different fonts because I wanted to show 2 qualities: speed and strength. The Engravers Gothic font was used for "Boston" to show a strong home base. I used the New Hand font for "Pirates" to exemplify a slippery kind of speed.
The new logo was used on three versions of their uniforms over the years.
